The 2025 Flower Show was a success!
Check out all the photos and information below:
The Community Garden Club of Duxbury (CGCD) is having our first flower show since 2019. Traditionally, our club had a flower show every other year. What is a National Garden Clubs (NGC) Flower Show? An NGC Flower Show is a celebration of the garden club mission. (See the slide show below for photos of past CGCD shows.) our show, “It’s Summertime, let your Imagination Bloom” will be June 12 1nd 13.
A flower show stimulates interest and education in horticulture, floral design and related topics. It also provides an outlet for creative expression. The garden club comes together to share our talents with each other and the public. A show typically has at least two divisions: Horticulture and Floral Design. Our show also has divisions for Botanical Arts Artistic Crafts, and Youth. All the rules, contact information, and details of the show are in a document called the Schedule. Entry day for all exhibits is Wednesday, June 11. Please consider signing up via SignUpGenius here. We welcome ALL members in the Club to participate. Club members who do floral designs will receive reimbursement to offset the expense of purchasing plant material for the design and botanical arts.
The Horticulture Division showcases horticulture specimens grown by members and community amateur gardeners. These may include flowers (perennial and annual), foliage, branches (trees and shrubs), fruit, vegetables, and container grown plants. Exhibits are botanically labelled, classified into competitive groupings and judged by accredited NGC flower show judges. Our show includes flowering perennials (such as: Astilbe, Peony, and Roses), flowering annuals (such as Bachelor’s Button, Daisy, and Love-in-the-mist), and flowering branches (such as: Hydrangea, Viburnum, and Dogwood). Bring what you grow and don’t be surprised if you win a blue ribbon. Checkout the Schedule to see the full list.
The Design Division encourages club members to learn about and create traditional and creative floral design types. The arrangements are judged on the use of design elements and principles, selection and use of components, and distinction. There are competitive categories for the novice as well as experienced designers. Definitions of each design type are in the Handbook for Flower Shows. (Link is in the Schedule.) Our club has student and accredited judges that can advise you.
Here are examples of design types in our show:

Botanical Arts Artistic Crafts are another outlet for creative expression.
Artistic crafts are objects with a function which may be made entirely or
partially of plant material. These are judged on artistic merit. These Artistic
Crafts are new to most of us. Anyone who enjoys crafts might find this a fun
way to participate in the flower show. Photo examples of Artist Crafts featured
in our show, follow:

We also have a Youth Division with Artistic Craft exhibits to encourage our
young people to explore the joys of working with plant materials. They will be
showing collages, miniature gardens, and pressed flower art.
We hope that club members will embrace exhibiting in the show, as well as
helping with the production. See the Schedule for more information.
